April 2006

Greetings Gentle Reader!

Happy Springtime! And with it ParaResearcher’s Sixth Anniversary online!

It’s hard to believe that six years have gone by since this organization was founded on a lonely, snowy road in Scugog Twshp.

We had set out at that time to fill a void that we perceived within this province.

Our goal was to provide information, investigation, study and research of paranormal topics with an agnostic/neutral view and where possible a scientific approach that at the same time was easily and freely made accessible on the world wide web.

It has been an exciting time for us, and we have seen a tremendous amount of positive growth since that first year both on the web and in the field! We believe that we not only met those initial goals, but we exceeded them as well!

A large part of meeting our goals has been accomplished by the addition of newer members who have provided fresh new approaches and concepts to the existing study!

Please join us in welcoming Jennifer Tyrrell one of our newest researchers and investigators. Jennifer is a folklorist from Burlington Ontario and we have already received much favourable feedback on the articles she has written for us!

Also joining us is Stephanie Darroch who worked very hard to pass the PSICAN investigator’s course. And has already conducted her first investigation at the former DuMaurier Theater in Toronto. Stephanie has also been working on some innovative ideas in regards to possible telepathic communication and electronic voice phenomenon. Her experiments will be detailed within a paper in the coming months on this site.

We are looking forward to the addition of a handful of new investigators/researchers this year as well. Look for announcements on the PSICAN message forum.

If you are interested in possibly becoming a member of our group please read through our F.A.Q for information on how to do so.

Also brand new for Summer 2006 is our on-site seminar series! Please join us for an evening of fun and education at some of Toronto’s most famous haunts! For further details, dates, locations, and availability please click here.

While we have received much postive feedback from our readers over the years we occasionally receive negative commentary as well. Most recently a scathing diatribe from a business owner who proclaimed her B&B the “most haunted” in all of Canada. A very bold statement indeed that we were quite curious about. She was very unhappy that we dared to question this claim after she contacted us initially. And was most disgruntled that we would not allow her to use our forums for advertising her for-profit business despite this being a violation of our terms of service which she agreed to before signing up.

We view the above as unfortunate, but a solid reenforcement of our own values, which are maintaining the integrity of what we believe to be a valuable and worthy study. To that end we will never willingly lie, hoax, exaggerate, make outrageous claims nor charge fees for services that are highly questionable.

From the witnesses who entrust us with their personal experiences to you our gentle and thoughtful readers we owe to you our honest and ethical approach.

And we must be doing something right!

For those interested in our website stats we have just passed the 900,000 mark of hits and will probably be over the one million mark in the next few months.

For ongoing information and an interactive approach please join us in our discussion forum located here: http://www.psican.org/messagecentre/index.php

The above forum is heavily moderated for the comfort of all users, however is quite lively and full of interesting discussions. Posts to date are over 8,000 with 445 registered users. We also use the forum to announce any upcoming events and public information meetings.

If you would like to contact us or share what you may believe is a paranormal experience we would love to hear from you. Instructions on how to do so are available by
clicking here.

And finally on a more personal note both Matthew and myself have joined the rapidly growing blogging community! Have a look at The Paranormal Blog! Updated almost daily .. we were already voted Blog of the Day by BlogMad readers!!!!

Once again thank you very much to all of those who have written expressing your support for our organization and our parent PSICAN. Keep those emails coming in!

 Regards,

Sue
