London, Ontario

Summer 1993

It was a Saturday evening in either July or early August (I honestly don't remember), I was travelling home from London, I did have a passenger, my  girlfriend at the time. It was roughly 11:30-ish, we were traveling north on highway 23 from where it begins at highway 7.  As we passed the first concession road I noticed off to my left, in a north-northwest direction two HUGE balls of light. They looked like they were "house-sized", and from the distance I was guessing they were, about 150-200 ft off of the ground.  As I watched them move up & down, one would disappear, then reappear, & alternate.  One was always in plain view, most of the time both were.  There was no time pattern or  rhythm as to when one would go, or when they would move.  After driving about another 5 miles, before I turned onto Huron County Rd 11, I realised they  weren;t any closer, and that they therefore had to be much higher up, as they didn't disappear as I passed in front of structures.  I watched as I drove on to my girlfriend's house (another 5 miles), they looked to be in the same area I thought they had been in when I first noticed them (15mins previously). Intrigued, and determined to follow them, I got gas at the farm (Girlfriends parents), and after a goodnight well-wish, was on my way.  I headed west onto  highway 83, from Cty road 11, & followed it through Exeter to Highway 21,  north on highway 21.

At this point I realised that the lights weren't over the lake like I thought, but looked as though they were above Goderich, a 20 minute drive north. The whole time I had been driving, they never got larger or smaller, or seemed to move geographically. I headed North. I reached Bayfield  & lost them for a minute or two as I went down the valley across the Bayfield river & back up the other side.  When I reached the top of the  hill, the lights had moved to a spot more inland from the lake.  I turned onto another county road towards Clinton (east), the lights were now north-northeast  of me, but only slightly.  Before I got to Clinton I took a turn north to Holmesville, turned right at Holmesville & crossed Highway 8, and went up to  the Auburn road. As I crossed the Maitland, I lost them again, but found them again & they were back over the lake it seemed just north of Goderich. I went through Benmiller& Salford back onto Highway 21 just north of the Maitland bridge outside Goderich.  I turned North onto 21 again.  I followed  highway 21, past Pt Albert, past Amberley, and the whole time I had not gotten any closer to the lights. I went almost all the way to Kincardine, but got tired when I noticed it was nearly 2am. & gave up & went home.  If you look at a map you'll notice the territory I covered! The lights were an ordinary spotlight colour too, nothing strange or flashing. Well, that's my tale. Submitted to P.R.O 15/11/01 <name deleted by request>
