Simcoe County, Near Barrie Ontario March 1981 11pm

This happened when I was 12 years old so if you take it with a grain of salt I won't have my feathers ruffled. I was out with some friends late one evening in March of 1981 or so. I went to a private school near Barrie out in the country and we often went out to star gaze in an abandoned quarry near by. This quarry had enormous slag piles that we would climb up and sit on top of. There was no ambient light anywhere except for starlight in the sky on these nights. It was excellent for star watching. I was sitting watching the sky when suddenly a brightish star near the moon caught my eye. I thought it first was a plane but it had no other light on but silvery white and it was farther out than a plane would be. It looked just like a star but more like a planet as it was not twinkling. It was as if there was a closer planet to the moon than either Venus or Jupiter as it hung close to the moon. I watched this weird little extra planet for about 5 minuets and then all of a sudden it started to move away from my sight straight up. Slowly at first and then faster. As it passed the moon I knew it was unique and I tried to point this out to my friends close by but they could not see it. (It was like trying to point out a satellite to some one as it tracks across the sky)This was no satellite it was not tracking form horizon to horizon it was going straight up and away from the earth. I watched it until it had moved so far up that it just faded into the blackness of space. The strangest thing was I had gotten the feeling that when I spotted it, it then realized it had been seen and decided to go. Was the weirdest thing that I have ever seen in my life. It was also one of the coolest things too. To this day I can see it in my minds eye when ever I look up into the nights sky and remember it. I am convinced it was a UFO and always wonder where it went to and where it had come from.I hope they come back again some day.

Our thanks to the witness for sharing this experience with us.
