I was heading west on Queen Street in Brampton, and turned left after crossing over the 410 - to take a shortcut through a shopping plaza... when I spotted an unusual-looking object in the sky at approximately 45 degrees in the southern sky. The object was oval in shape and was a bright white/orange colour. I later determined that it was the size of a pencil lead held at arm's length (which is still quite big - larger than a planet or star). At first I thought it was just an extremely unusual cloud reflecting sunlight from the not-yet-risen sun - and expected it to drift and change its shape - but it did not. I realized that this was something out of the ordinary, so I pulled into the empty No Frills parking lot to observe this object.  The sky was clear where this object was - but there was a dark bank of clouds further south over Lake Ontario.  Passenger jets were flying in the same part of the sky - and they were all dark - NOT REFLECTING SUNLIGHT at all. I watched this object move slowly away in a south-easterly direction where it eventually faded from view behind a drifting cloud. I had 5 minutes to watch this take place.

I later compared what I saw to images of the International Space Station seen from earth - and this was nothing like that. The only thing that it could have been was some sort of very large balloon... but why was it reflecting bright sunlight when the sun had not yet come up over the horizon - and all the aircraft in the sky were not reflecting sunlight - even as they turned in the sky...?
